JAKARTA - The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government together with one of the companies in the field of waste management and plastic recycling has presented a plastic waste collection and recycling center "Collection Center Ciracas" which can strengthen the community-based waste management ecosystem.
Head of the DKI Jakarta Environmental Service (DLH), Asep Kuswanto, said that this facility located in the Ciracas area, East Jakarta, is an effort to support the 1 RW 1 Bank Sampah program and accelerate the implementation of a circular economy in Jakarta.
This is also in line with the priority program of the Governor of DKI Jakarta Pramono Anung to strengthen waste management from upstream, especially through the habit of sorting waste from home.
"Waste management must start at the source. The presence of plastic recycling centers such as the Ciracas Collection Center is an important part of the circular economic chain, as well as a means of building public awareness of the importance of sorting waste," said Asep as quoted by ANTARA, Friday, December 19.
This facility is also an example of the implementation of "creative financing", namely the collaboration of the government and the private sector in presenting modern and sustainable public services without completely relying on the Regional Revenue and Expenditure Budget (APBD). "This collaborative scheme is important to accelerate the transformation of the Jakarta waste management system, while opening up space for business participation in environmental development," he said.
Meanwhile, Commissioner of PT Morego Green Indonesia, Astrid Fauzia Zahra, said that the Ciracas Collection Center was designed as a pilot project that serves five sub-districts in East Jakarta, namely Cipayung, Ciracas, Kramat Jati, Makassar, and Pasar Rebo.
"Its processing capacity reaches around 8-10 tons of plastic waste per day with a garbage bank as the main partner," explained Astrid.
In the future, the coverage of this service is targeted to be expanded to reach all areas of Jakarta. The waste collection and recycling center was built with an investment value of around Rp. 3.5 billion.
In processing, plastic waste that enters will go through two sorting stages. The first stage is the initial sorting to separate the types of plastics that are still mixed.
The second stage is a continuation of sorting based on the color and specifications of the raw materials of the recycled industry. Next, plastic bottles are processed with a label remover machine so that the material is cleaner, before being pressed for distribution efficiency to the processing plant.
