BNN Sleman Tests Urine Driver Jip Lava Tour Merapi Ahead of the Year-end Holidays

SLEMAN - The National Narcotics Agency (BNNK) Sleman Regency conducted a urine test on the operator of the Lava Tour Merapi tourist jeep in order to create a conducive situation during the 2025 Christmas and New Year 2026 holidays.

"We have carried out this urine test on Wednesday (17/12) in Umbulharjo, Cangkringan, which was attended by 43 drivers or drivers of tourist jeeps on the slopes of Mount Merapi," said Head of BNNK Sleman Kombes Teguh Tri Prasetya as reported by ANTARA, Thursday, December 18.

According to him, this activity involves the Kesbangpol Agency, the Tourism Service, the Transportation Service, the Sleman Satpol PP, the Sleman Police and the Sleman Kodim 0732.

"The officers who carried it out were a collaboration from BNNK Sleman, Sleman Kesbangpol Agency, Sleman Police Narcotics Unit, Sleman Police Hospital, Sleman Tourism Office, Sleman PP Satpol, Sleman Transportation Office, Kodim 0732 Sleman, Koramil Sleman and the Association of Jeep Tours to the slopes of Mount Merapi," he said.

The results of the early detection urine test activity with a total of 43 participants were found to be negative for consuming narcotics.

"This activity is based on increasing vigilance ahead of the Christmas and New Year holidays and as an early detection step for the misuse and illicit circulation of narcotics," he said.

Teguh said that Sleman Regency has a Merapi Lava Tour so that Merapi tour jeep drivers are expected to have a deterrent against the misuse and illegal circulation of Narcotics.

"This cross-agency collaboration activity is proof of concern and good cooperation to realize the Sleman Sembada District Shining Clean Drugs," he said.

Head of the Sleman Regency Tourism Office, Edy Winarya, said that with the Christmas and New Year holidays, it is predicted that tourists entering the Sleman Regency area will increase.

"Lava tour Merapi with a jeep is one of the mainstay tours of Sleman Regency, to support security and order during the Nataru holiday, it is hoped that tourism actors will also be free from the misuse and illegal circulation of narcotics," he said.

He appreciated the early detection activity of urine tests as one of the strategic steps to secure Sleman from the dangers of drugs.

"In general, from this activity, the Merapi tourist jeep drivers are guiding the tourism in Nataru in a healthy way without the use of narcotics," he said.

He said that through this activity, it is hoped that it will be a strategic effort to reduce the prevalence of drug abuse in the Sleman Regency area.
