LABUAN BAJO - The Manggarai Regency Government, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), emphasized its commitment to resolving inter-community conflicts in Satar Mese District by prioritizing the approach of dialogue, law, and humanity.

Manggarai Regent Herybertus Geradus Laju Nabit said the local government is currently trying to resolve the land conflict that triggered the clash through mediation.

"The regional government is actually trying to resolve land conflicts through mediation, so we ask all parties to refrain and entrust the resolution of this issue to the government," Herybertus said in a statement received in Labuan Bajo, Antara, Tuesday, December 16.

He conveyed this following a conflict between residents that occurred on December 15 in Satar Mese District and caused injuries and disrupted public peace and security.

Herybertus emphasized that in recent times the Manggarai Regency Government has made various mediation and facilitation efforts to resolve land conflicts in stages by involving related parties, in order to find a just and dignified solution for all parties.

Currently, he continued, the local government together with the TNI and Polri apparatus has been on the ground to quell the unrest that has emerged while ensuring that the security situation remains under control and conducive.

He also appealed to the entire community, especially the parties in conflict, to refrain from taking actions that could complicate the situation.

"Parties that are not directly related to this issue should stop spreading comments, information, and opinions that have the potential to disrupt security stability," he said.

In addition, he hopes that all elements of society can direct attention and energy to support the treatment process and recovery of the victims of the clashes who are currently being treated at the nearest health facilities.

"Let's maintain brotherhood and peace in Manggarai. Violence will not solve the problem. The Manggarai Regency Government is committed to resolving this issue fairly, peacefully, and with dignity," said Herybertus.

Meanwhile, the Head of Public Relations of the Manggarai Police, AKP Putu Saba Nugraha, explained that the clash occurred in Hilihintir Village, West Satar Mese District, and was triggered by a dispute and mutual claims of land ownership in Pong Pahar Village.

As a result of the incident, eight people from both groups of residents were injured, both serious and minor injuries.

"The long-standing tension due to land disputes finally culminated in a physical clash," said Putu.

Upon receiving the report of the incident, the personnel of the Satar Mese Police who were led by the Head of the Police, Iptu Kiki Zakia Muhamad Bachsoan immediately went to the location to secure the situation and prevent subsequent clashes. Security was also strengthened by personnel from the Manggarai Police from the Samapta Unit, Intelkam, and Criminal Investigation Unit.

The land that is the object of dispute is known to be about 80 meters x 30 meters and has been in the hands of the Manggarai Regency Government for the settlement process.

As a follow-up step, the police together with the Manggarai Regency government held separate meetings with the two groups of residents, each in Pong Pahar Village and Hilihintir Village Office. As a result of the meeting, both parties agreed to completely hand over the resolution of the land dispute to the local government and committed to refrain.
