JAKARTA - Deputy Chairman of Commission X of the House of Representatives, Lalu Hadrian Irfani, invites the public to read carefully the Indonesian History Book which has just been launched by the Ministry of Culture. Then also invite the public to study and criticize the contents of the book.

According to Lalu, the presence of this book is an important part of efforts to enrich the literacy and understanding of the people about the journey of the Indonesian nation.

Therefore, he invited the public, academics, historians, and education observers to provide open criticism and suggestions regarding the new Indonesian history book.

"Please, the public read and study the new Indonesian History Book. If there are criticisms, suggestions, or notes, it is important as part of the improvement process," said Lalu Hadrian to reporters, Monday, December 15.

The PKB legislator from the NTB District also emphasized that if there are errors in the data, writing errors, or inaccurate interpretations of history in the book, then the government in this case, the Ministry of Culture, must revise it.

"Mistakes in book writing are normal. No work is completely perfect. Therefore, the government should not be ashamed to revise if there are indeed errors," said Lalu.

Then, he reminded, an open attitude towards criticism is a reflection of a healthy cultural and educational governance. According to him, the revision of the history book actually shows the commitment of the state in presenting an accurate, balanced, and scientifically accountable historical narrative.

"The most important thing is the courage to improve. The history book should be a reference that educates, not just a document that is maintained even though there are mistakes," he concluded.

Previously, the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Indonesia launched the book History of Indonesia: National Dynamics in Global Currents, at the Plaza Insan Berprestasi, Jakarta Culture Ministry Building, Sunday, December 14. The launch was held in conjunction with the establishment of National History Day, marking a major update of the writing of Indonesian history that has not been comprehensively carried out for a long time.

Minister of Culture Fadli Zon stated that this book was compiled as a response to the academic need to enrich the Indonesian history narrative with the latest research findings. The government, he said, does not interfere in the content and methodology. The role of the state is limited to that of a facilitator.

"In the last two decades, there have been many historical and archaeological findings that have not been integrated. This book answers that need," said Menbud Fadli Zon.

This book consists of 10 main volumes and one volume of miscellaneous facts, with a total of 7,958 pages. The writing process lasted for one year and involved 123 writers and editors from 34 universities and 11 non-university institutions. The writing was designed not as a textbook, but as a narrative of the dynamics of the Indonesian nation's journey.
