Monitoring of Lunar Eclipse in Ancol/Antara

JAKARTA - Observations of the total lunar eclipse were conducted by the Team of Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency at Hati Pier, Ancol Dreamland, North Jakarta on Wednesday, at 17.40 WIB.

Deputy for Geophysics Muhammad Sadly said that observations can also be made online through the website of the Meteorological, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG).

"We also broadcast online (live streaming) from BMKG's official website. New observations can be made at 17.40 WIB when the moon rises. When it rises, it is immediately the position of the moon is covered with partial earth shadow", Sadly told reporters in Jakarta, reported by Antara, Wednesday, May 26.

He said that as advised by health protocols, observations cannot be made in the beach area at this time so that visitors do not crowd and can travel safely and comfortably during the COVID-19 pandemic.

"We encourage the activity of seeing directly from Ancol beach is not followed by visitors. Therefore, the recommendations of the COVID-19 Task Force Team, we must certainly comply", Sadly said.

Meanwhile, Head of Potential Geophysics and Time Signature BMKG, Hendra Suwarta Suprihatin, said officers brought two telescopes with Vixen VC-type computer lenses with a diameter of 200 millimeters sphinx SXD lens openings at Ancol pier.

Other personnel helped set up an astronomical image monitoring app (Astro Photography Tool) on a laptop.

Meanwhile, the position of the moon is on the east side of the sky of DKI Jakarta. But the position of the moon looks like a line when viewed with the naked eye.

Hendra estimates that the total lunar eclipse of new wells can be witnessed at 18.18 to 18.28 WIB.

"The whole process (of the total lunar eclipse of the well) until the end of the earth's shadow lost approximately lasted 18 minutes 44 seconds", Hendra said.

A total lunar eclipse is an eclipse that occurs when the distance of the moon is in the closest position to the earth. When the moon is closer to the earth, the volume of the moon appears larger than usual. Scientifically it is commonly referred to as a supermoon.

The phenomenon is very rare and BMKG predicts it will happen again in 2023.
