MUARA ENIM - Three villages in Muara Enim Regency, South Sumatra were hit by a flood disaster due to the overflow of the Kelekar River along with the increasing rainfall that fell since Saturday morning around 08.00 WIB.

"This flood is also a river water shipment from Prabumulih City, South Sumatra," said the Head of the Muara Enim BPBD, Abdurrozieq Putra, in Muara Enim, Saturday.

He said that the three villages affected by the floods include Embacang Village, Teluk Jaya Village, and Menanti Village.

Although there were no casualties, the flood disaster submerged dozens of houses in the three villages with a water height of one meter.

"There are 88 houses submerged in the flood and 229 residents affected," he said.

Receiving reports from the community, his party deployed dozens of personnel to the flood site to help evacuate residents if necessary.

The personnel deployed are equipped with adequate equipment such as one rubber boat, three sine machine units, and one rescue car.

"So far, no victims have been evacuated. Based on reports from field officers this afternoon, flooding in several locations has gradually receded," he said.

Although the flood has receded, until now officers are still patrolling the flood-affected areas to anticipate subsequent disasters.

"Our community asks that we continue to increase vigilance in the face of the potential for subsequent flooding because it is predicted that rainfall will still occur in Muara Enim Regency for the next few days," he said.
