JAKARTA - Secretary of Commission A of the DKI Jakarta DPRD, Mujiyono, highlighted the fire at the Terra Drone Building in Kemayoran which claimed 22 lives. He called the tragedy a strong alarm that many buildings in the capital had not met the fire safety protection standards.
The data shows that there are still 361 tall buildings in Jakarta that do not meet fire safety standards. The findings, said Mujiyono, illustrate the real risks to public safety.
He asked the DKI Provincial Government not to stop at the inspection step, but to take firm action against buildings operating without a fire safety certificate (SKK) and a function-worthy letter (SLF).
"Do a thorough examination of all high-rise buildings. Especially the old buildings that have been minimally updated," said Mujiyono to reporters, Friday, December 12.
According to him, cross-agency supervision must be carried out effectively, starting from the DKI Jakarta Fire and Rescue Service (Gulkarmat), Satpol PP, Cipta Karya, Spatial Planning and Land Service (Citata), to the Manpower Office.
He emphasized that the DKI Provincial Government must ensure that all safety equipment is functioning, including alarms, hydrants, and sprinklers. Evacuation routes must also be tested for feasibility so as not to cause obstacles during emergency conditions.
"Building managers who neglect need to be given administrative sanctions," he said.
Mujiyono added that building security readiness does not only depend on technical devices. Security officers must receive emergency response training, while access to fire vehicles needs to be ensured to be free from obstacles, both from additional buildings and illegal parking.
He also encouraged the DKI Provincial Government to provide technical support to old buildings so that the protection system can be updated.
"This is so that the protext system can be updated," he said.
On the other hand, he reminded that completeness of the permit is not an absolute guarantee for a safe building. The manager remains obliged to carry out routine maintenance of the entire safety system.
"The government must ensure that this is carried out, because what we are guarding is not only buildings, but the lives of Jakarta residents," he said.
