The joint SAR team evacuated a 17-year-old climber who died after falling on the Aik Berik route, Mount Rinjani, Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara, Wednesday, December 10 evening at 22.48 WITA.

"The victim, Ilmi Cahyadi, from Lingkok Kudung Hamlet, Seteling Village, North Batukliang District, Central Lombok, was immediately handed over to the family after being evacuated," said Mataram SAR Rescue Team Field Coordinator I Gde Eka Suarjana, quoted by Antara, Thursday, December 11.

SAR Mataram received a report from the Gunung Rinjani National Park (TNGR) on Wednesday morning regarding climbers who fell while climbing the mountain.

The victim departed with his group on Sunday 7 December at 06.00 WITA via the Seteling route. When he arrived at Mount Kondo Monday, December 8 at 09.00 WITA, his colleague saw the victim falling into a ravine.

"Families and local residents had carried out independent evacuations before the SAR Team was dispatched," Suarjana added.

SAR personnel are equipped with mountaineering equipment, communications, thermal drones, medical, and other supporting equipment for operations involving the TNI, Polri, TNGR, East Lombok SAR Unit, Polhut, family, and local residents.

"At 13.30 WITA, the team received information that the victim could be taken down from the scene, so the evacuation was carried out by relay," said Suarjana.

Evacuation faced steep terrain and limited visibility, but finally the victim was taken to the entrance of the Aik Berik climbing route on Wednesday night.

Suarjana appealed to climbers to remain vigilant while climbing so that similar accidents do not happen again in the future.
