BANDARLAMPUNG - Lampung Regional Police (Polda) confirmed that the log wood-carrying company stranded on Tanjung Setia Beach, West Coast Regency, PT Minas Pagai Lumber has a forest product utilization permit from the Ministry of Forestry (Kemenhut).
"The results of coordination with the Ministry of Law and Human Rights of PT Minas are given an effort to utilize forest products in natural forests, with an IUP of approximately 78 thousand hectares of HHKH," said Lampung Police Chief Inspector General Helfi Assegaf as reported by ANTARA, Wednesday, December 10.
He revealed that the forest utilization permit was contained in Decree No. 550/1995 dated October 11, 1995, and an extension was carried out in 2013 in accordance with the Decree 502 of the Minister of Forestry/II 2013 dated July 14, 2013, which has been in effect since April 13, 2011 for a period of 45 years.
"The permit is in accordance with the regulations of the Ministry of Environment and Forestry Number 8 of 2001 concerning forest planning and forest management and forest utilization in protected forests and production forests," he said.
The Regional Police Chief explained that the logistical wood found at Tanjung Setia Beach was discovered on Saturday (6/12) based on information from the public.
"Then after checking at the TKP, we got information that the wood was transported using a ship carrying 986 logs or about 4,800 cubic meters belonging to PT Minas Pagai Lumber," he said.
He said the ship departed from Mentawai, West Sumatra, to PT Makmur Cemerlang via the port of Tanjung Mas, Semarang, Central Java.
"But on Wednesday (5/11) precisely in the waters of Tanjung loyal to the ship carrying the wood, the engine died. Because the propeller was wrapped in garbage, the ship's engine was unable to pull the barge," he said.
Then, because the condition of the waves was quite high, the ship was adrift, on November 7, the anchor rope broke which caused the barge to tilt and part of the wood fell into the sea of Tanjung Setia Beach.
"Furthermore, the police came to the TKP to evacuate the crew of the ship. There were 14 crew members there. We also carried out inspections of ship transportation which contained log wood. Namely, transportation documents came from business permits for forest utilization or PBPH, as well as tracing labelbarcodes on several logs identified in the forest products administration system (SIPUH)," he said.
