A Gang Of ATM Ganjar In Cirebon Drains Victims' Money Of Up To IDR 71 Million

CIREBON - Cirebon City Resort Police (Polres), West Java, revealed the action of a gang of theft perpetrators by weighting using the automated teller machine (ATM) which resulted in the victim's loss of up to Rp71 million.

"It happened on November 18, 2025. The perpetrators have now been arrested, after we followed up on reports from victims," said Cirebon City Police Chief AKBP Eko Iskandar as reported by ANTARA, Wednesday, December 10.

He explained that the police had arrested three perpetrators, namely DA from South Lampung, AH from Tangerang, and AP. Meanwhile, one perpetrator with the initials E is still being searched and designated as a wanted list (DPO).

The police chief said the mode was carried out by placing a lition or match handle on the ATM machine card slot to make it difficult for the victim to insert the card so that the perpetrator can carry out the action.

According to Eko, the perpetrators shared their roles before taking action, namely one person in charge of blocking the ATM card slot, one perpetrator peeked at the victim's PIN, and the other perpetrator exchanged the victim's ATM card with a similar card that had been prepared.

"The card used by the perpetrator has the same type and color so the victim does not realize that the card has been exchanged," he said.

The victim, who had difficulty inserting the card, then asked for help from one of the perpetrators who was around the location. At that time the perpetrator exchanged the victim's card without realizing it.

After the incident, said Eko, the victim suffered a loss of Rp. 71 million after the balance in his account was withdrawn gradually by the perpetrators.

"After getting the PIN and the victim's ATM card, the perpetrators withdrew money at another ATM location using the card that had been exchanged," he said.

The perpetrators were charged with Article 363 and/or 378 of the Criminal Code regarding theft with weight and fraud.

In addition to arresting the perpetrators, the police also secured evidence in the form of a bank statement and an ATM card belonging to the victim, as well as 58 ATM cards of various types prepared by the perpetrators.

"In addition, other equipment used in the crime was also secured, including the vehicle used by the gang," he said.
