JAYAPURA Coalition 16 Anti-Violence Against Women (16 HAKTP) highlights the lack of access to justice for women in Papua. This is considered to have happened because law enforcement officials have not seriously handled gender issues in the region.
"We see that until now women in Papua are still getting violence, both structurally and culturally," said Coordinator of the 16 HAKTP Coalition, Novita Opki, quoted from ANTARA, Wednesday, December 10, 2025.
According to Novita, the 16th anniversary of the Day of Anti-Violence Against Women (16 RightSP) on December 10, 2025 should be a momentum to call for the importance of returning safe space for Papuan women.
"The momentum is also a reminder that Papuan women will continue to fight all forms of violence," he said.

Loss Of Safe Space
Novita added that Papuan women, especially those living in conflict areas, are increasingly losing their sense of security. He explained the data on cases of violence that the coalition had collected.
"As of June 2025, we have received reports both online and offline about the violence that occurred against Papuan women as many as 3,025 cases," he said.
In commemoration of 16 HAKTP, the Coalition will hold various activities, including public discussions, talks on male involvement, discussion of the impact of militarism, screening of documentary films, and presentation of the results of violent surveys.
Law Protection Demands
Similarly, Papuan Women's Human Rights Network activist, Fien Rakangga, said the commemoration of 16 HAKTP was an important momentum for Papuan women to fight for basic rights, such as education, health, living space, and civil liberties, which had been disrupted due to the impact of militarism since 1960.
Fien urged the country not to let this campaign serve as an annual warning.
"We hope that this campaign will not be limited to annual warnings, but the state must open space for Papuan women and ensure legal protection," he concluded.
