JAKARTA - The Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park Center (TNBTS) has extended the period of closing the Mount Semeru hiking trail to anticipate extreme weather, as appealed by the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG).
Head of TNBTS Center Rudijanta Tjahja Nugraha said the period for closing the hiking trail on Mount Semeru was valid until an undetermined time limit.
"Regarding the potential for extreme weather throughout December 2025, the TNBTS Center has decided to extend the closure of the Mount Semeru Climbing until an undetermined time limit," said Rudi as quoted by ANTARA, Tuesday, December 9.
The extension of the period of closing the hiking trail on Mount Semeru is stated in the Announcement Letter Number: PG.21/T.8/TU/HMS.01.08/B/12/2025 concerning the Extension of the Mount Semeru Climbing Cover which was published today.
This step is an effort to anticipate emergency events, such as heavy rains, landslides, and strong winds due to bad weather that can occur at any time and threaten the safety of all climbers.
Rudi stated that climbers who have purchased tickets through the online admission ticket booking system on the official bromotenggersemeru.id website, starting from November 20 to December 18, 2025, can reschedule.
"The mechanism will be announced after there is certainty of reopening the hiking trail," he said.
The TNBTS Center ensures that it will take firm action against any illegal climbing activities in accordance with the provisions of the applicable law.
Meanwhile, two tourist activities in two other locations, namely the Mount Bromo and Ranu Regulo areas, are still open.

Although it is still open for tourism, Rudi appealed to tourists to avoid areas categorized as disaster-prone, especially in Bromo Crater (Planet Bromo).
At that location, said Rudi, it was indeed a point for the seismograph to monitor the seismicity and activity of Bromo's volcanic activity.
The TNBTS Center also emphasized that all prospective visitors must comply with this decision that has been made.
"To the public, visitors, tourism service actors, and related parties to be considered and carried out with full responsibility," he said.
