West Sumatra Extends Flood And Landslide Emergency Response Period Until December 22, 2025

The West Sumatra Provincial Government (West Sumatra) officially extended the emergency response period for handling flash flood and landslide hydrometeorological disasters until December 22, 2025. The decision was announced by the Governor of West Sumatra Mahyeldi after holding a coordination meeting in Padang City, Monday, December 8.

"After we hold a meeting today, we decided to extend the emergency response period until December 22, 2025," said Mahyeldi.

Previously, the West Sumatra Provincial Government had set an emergency response period from November 25 to December 8, 2025. This initial decision was taken following almost all districts and cities in Minang that were affected by large floods and landslides due to extreme weather.

An extension of the emergency response period is needed to maximize the handling of the impact of the disaster that is still ongoing. Until now, the recovery process is still focused on opening and repairing a number of major accesses that were severely damaged after being hit by floods and landslides.

A number of vital routes between regions have not been passed normally, thus requiring intensive treatment.

Mahyeldi also emphasized the importance of accurate and complete data collection from all district and city governments. He asked each regional head to immediately submit data on damage, starting from residents' homes, public facilities, to other supporting facilities affected by natural disasters.

"Data collection must really be completed. This is important to measure the need for assistance and further recovery steps," he said.

With the extension of this emergency response status, the West Sumatra Provincial Government hopes that disaster management can run faster and more coordinated, while ensuring that assistance for affected communities can be distributed optimally.
