JAKARTA - The South Korean Presidential Office launched a presidential memorial watch on Friday, commemorating the six months of President Lee Jae Myung's inauguration.
Presidential spokesman Kang Yu-jung explained that Taegeuk's motive "increasing the completeness of design aesthetics as well as realizing the continuity of Korean constitutional identity and hope for national unity."
"The presidential office hopes that the launch of this watch can remind us of the philosophy of the presidential government, that one hour the president or public officials are equivalent to 52 million hours of Korean people's time," Kang said at a press conference on Friday, emphasizing the government's determination to work harder to improve the daily lives of citizens.
Like a presidential watch in general, the front features a presidential stamp alongside President Lee's signature, while the watch surface is decorated with traditional Taegeuk motifs.
Meanwhile, at the back of the clock there is the president's own handwriting engraved the phrase "A country where the people are rulers".
Kang explained that the writing on the back reflects President Lee's commitment to communicating with the public whenever and anywhere, as well as upholding people's sovereignty.
