SEMRANG - Two Regional Secretarys (Sekda) of Klaten Regency, Jaka Sawaldi and Jajang Prihono, were tried in a case of alleged corruption in the management of Plaza Klaten, assets belonging to the Klaten Regency Government, and were charged with causing state losses of Rp. 6.8 billion.

Public Prosecutor Rudi Kurniawan in a trial at the Semarang Corruption Court, said the two defendants allegedly approved the application for the management of Plaza Klaten by PT Matahari Makmur Sejahtera without the auction process.

Jaka Salwadi is the Klaten Regional Secretary for the 2016-2021 period, while Jajang Prihono is the Klaten Regional Secretary for the 2022 period to date.

The corruption crime began when PT Matahari Makmur Sejahtera submitted a request for Plaza Klaten management to the Klaten Regency Government in 2020.

The defendant then received verbal permission to manage Plaza Klaten without going through the auction process and without any restrictions until 2022.

The company then submitted a request for management of Plaza Klaten again to the Klaten Regent in 2023.

During the management period from 2020 to 2023, PT Matahari Makmur Sejahtera collected a rental fee of 11.1 billion.

"From that amount of rental levies, only Rp. 4.2 billion was deposited into the regional treasury," he said as quoted by ANTARA, Thursday, December 4.

In his indictment, the prosecutor said that the defendant Jaka Sawaldi enjoyed a profit of Rp. 311 million.

For his actions, the defendant Jaka Rawaldi was charged with Article 2 paragraph 1 or Article 3 of Law Number 31 of 1999 which was amended by Law Number 20 of 2001 concerning the Eradication of Criminal Acts of Corruption.

Meanwhile, the defendant Jajang Prihono was charged with Article 2 paragraph 1 or Article 18 of Law Number 31 of 1999 which was amended by Law Number 20 of 2001 concerning the Eradication of Criminal Acts of Corruption.

Against the indictment of the public prosecutor, the two defendants did not file an objection, so Chief Judge Francis Tampubolon asked for the trial to continue with evidence.
