Body Of Elementary School Boy Carried By Cianjur River Current Found 10 Km From Lost Location

Joint officers found the body of an elementary school student named Hasbi (12) in Cikalongkulon District in Cianjur who was carried away by the river current for 10 kilometers on the fourth day of the search or Thursday, December 4.

Head of SAR Cianjur Andhika Zein said the search was carried out by crossing the river using rubber boats and riverbanks on foot involving around 56 joint officers.

"Joint officers of the TNI/Polri, BPBD Cianjur, Damkar, PMI Cianjur, and volunteers including SAR Karawang, were involved in a four-day search, along the Cikundul River to the Cirata Reservoir for more than 10 kilometers," he said in Cianjur, Thursday, confiscated by Antara.

Until the fourth day of the search, his party received reports from residents regarding the discovery of the victim's body floating in the Cirata Reservoir, so the officers went straight to the location and evacuated the victim's body and then handed over the family.

"With the discovery of the victim's body, the search process was stopped. We ask parents to increase supervision of children so that something similar does not happen, especially those living near the river," he said.

Until the end of the year, he said, information from the BMKG stated that extreme weather was still hitting most of the Cianjur area from north to south, with the potential for heavy rain in the morning, afternoon, and evening, so the public had to be vigilant.

"Over the past week we have handled two reports of water accidents that occurred in Cikalongkulon and Jayanti Beach sub-districts, Cidaun District, so we ask the public not to carry out activities on the banks of rivers and beaches," he said.

As previously reported, the Cianjur Regency SAR Office together with joint officers managed to evacuate five of the six children who were reported to be trapped by a sudden river in Mekarjaya Village, Cikalongkulon District, another person was reported missing.

After receiving the Cianjur SAR report, they coordinated with joint TNI/Polri officers, BPBD and the Cianjur Fire Department and PMI Cianjur to help search for victims carried by the river current.

Five children managed to save themselves on the edge of the river and were successfully evacuated by a joint team, while another person on behalf of Hasbi (11) was reported to have been carried away while swimming using used tires in the river, whose current was suddenly swift.
