Jakarta Flood Peak Predicted December 5, Pramono: 600 Pumps Prepared

JAKARTA - DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung revealed that the DKI Provincial Government has prepared hundreds of pumps to minimize the impact of coastal flooding or tidal flooding in Jakarta. Where, it is predicted that the peak of the tidal wave will occur on Friday, December 5 tomorrow.

"Kkan melakukan penyiapan pomp-pumpa yang ada. Sekarang pump itu yang bergerak itu kurang kurang 600 pompa lebih yang sedang kita siapkan di tempat- tempat itu. Termasuk ketika rob kemarin naik, orang kan khawatir di Muara Angke, kan bisa terlihat bahwa kemudian pompa sudah kita siapkan untuk mengatasi," kata Pramono di Jakarta Pusat, Kamis, 4 Desember.

As of today, a number of areas in North Jakarta and the Thousand Islands have been affected by tidal flooding. Today's weather conditions also have the potential to rain with moderate to high intensity. Therefore, Pramono is considering returning to carry out weather modification operations (OMC).

"If you look at the rain yesterday, it was very dark, suddenly it was clear and it was only raining. It's impossible if we don't do modifications," said Pramono.

Before the OMC was carried out, the DKI Provincial Government first coordinated with a number of agencies such as the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) to the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB).

"So the modification of course depends on the data and depends on the field. But for December and until January, we will indeed make some modifications to the weather," said Pramono.

Previously, the DKI Jakarta Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) asked the public, especially those living in coastal areas of Jakarta, to be aware of the potential peak of coastal flooding or tidal flooding that occurred on December 5, 2025.

"Rob is predicted to occur on December 4-6, 2025, with a peak time of December 5 at 09.00 WIB. Residents in the coastal area of Jakarta are advised to be aware of sea level increase," said Head of BPBD DKI Jakarta Isnawa Adji.

Isnawa explained that there were 6 areas that were mapped the most affected by tidal flooding, namely the Kamai, Muara Angke, Baywalk Pluit, Sunda Kelapa, RE Martadinata, and Blencong Marunda areas.

"Residents in these six areas are advised to increase vigilance and continue to monitor information from official information channels," said Isnawa.

The inundation and flood information channels managed by the DKI Provincial Government include the monitoring site banjir.jakarta.go.id, the JAKI application, and the DKI Jakarta BPBD social media.

Isnawa revealed that the potential for rob this week was compiled from information from the BMKG Meteorological Station Class I Maritime Tanjung Priok regarding the early warning of coastal flooding (rob). Based on BMKG information, the potential for tidal flooding this time is due to the phenomenon of full moon and perigeneu (suprmoon).

"This phenomenon has the potential to increase the maximum sea level in the form of coastal flooding or tidal flooding in the northern coastal area of Jakarta. The maximum tide peak occurs around 07.00 WIB-13.00 WIB," he explained.
