Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya stated that environmental damage was one of the factors that exacerbated the floods and landslides in three provinces in Sumatra, namely Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra, in addition to extreme weather.

Therefore, Teddy emphasized that along with the handling of the impact of disasters and rescue of affected residents, the government also evaluated and thoroughly investigated the environmental damage in the three provinces.

"Along with the evacuation and handling of victims which are the main focus of the government, so the cause of this disaster is also a concern and in addition to extreme weather factors, of course there are environmental damage factors that exacerbate disasters, and this continues to be seriously investigated," Teddy said in response to reporters' questions during a press conference at the Sumatra Disaster Assistance Post, Halim Perdanakusuma Air Base, Jakarta, Wednesday, December 3, reported by ANTARA.

"The government conducts a thorough evaluation and investigation regarding this disaster," said Teddy.

Meanwhile, National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo explained that the police had carried out verbal coordination with the Minister of Forestry Raja Juli Antoni regarding the findings of logs at locations affected by the disaster.

"Tomorrow (Thursday, 4/12), we will hold a joint meeting to deploy a joint team to carry out an investigation process related to the incident. Of course, if there is a violation of the law, we will process it," said the National Police Chief.

Meanwhile, Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture Pratikno also conveyed the same thing.

Pratikno stated that the Forest Area Control Task Force (PKH Task Force) had intervened to investigate the alleged logs carried by the flash flood currents.

"The Forest Area Control Task Force has intervened to investigate the alleged logs that were carried away by the flood currents. The government continues to investigate parties suspected of committing violations through analysis of satellite imagery," he said.

Thousands of large logs, most of which looked like they were cut with machines, were swept away by flash floods in three provinces of Sumatra, namely Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra. The weight of the logs is estimated at thousands of tons.

Flash floods hit Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra on Tuesday, November 25, 2025.

The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), on its official website, reported that the number of fatalities due to flash floods and landslides in Sumatra as of Wednesday reached 804 people, while 634 people were still missing.
