SEMARANG - Semarang City has again added a series of positive achievements at the national level. On the Night of Appreciation for the Performance of the Regional Government in 2025 held by the Ministry of Home Affairs at the Flores Ballroom, Hotel Borobudur Jakarta, Monday (1/12), Semarang City was officially named the winner of the category for the Improvement of Access to Education Services for urban areas with high fiscals.

The award was handed over by the Indonesian Minister of Elementary and Medium Education Abdul Mu'ti and received by Hernowo Budi Luhur, Assistant for Economics, Development and People's Welfare of the Semarang City Regional Secretariat, who was present representing the mayor of Semarang, Agustina Wilujeng.

The Ministry of Home Affairs' assessment shows that Semarang City recorded an increase of 0.106, well above the lowest value of this category of 0.094. Two main indicators are in the spotlight, namely the Old School (RLS) average increased from 11.05 years to 11.11 years, and the Old School Hope (HLS) rose from 15.57 to 15.58 years.

This increase is not just a number. The increase in RLS shows that children in Semarang City are now studying longer, while the increase in HLS illustrates opportunities for higher education in the future. The combination of the two is proof that the Semarang City Government's efforts to expand access, improve facilities, and ensure inclusive education are starting to have a real impact.

Agustina said that this award is the result of joint work between the city government, schools, teachers, and the community. This indicator shows that our educational services are not only more accessible, but really increase the duration of citizen learning. Education is a path to prosperity, and Semarang City wants to make sure every child has the same opportunity to move forward," he said.

On this occasion, the Ministry of Home Affairs emphasized that awards were given based on measurable indicators used to see the quality of education in an area. The assessment includes changes in school expectations as projections for future generations of educational opportunities, as well as changes in the average length of schooling as a result of education that has been pursued by the community today.

In addition to Semarang City as the winner of the high fiscal category, similar awards were also given to Banda Aceh (low fiscal) and Yogyakarta (medium fiscal).

The Semarang City Government emphasized that it will continue to expand access to education, starting from improving the quality of infrastructure, strengthening school services, to expanding assistance for underprivileged families. The focus is clear: reducing the gap in education and ensuring that every child has the best opportunity to learn and grow.

This award is also a motivation so that innovation and educational programs in the city of Semarang continue to grow and benefit from all levels of society. (ADV)
