JAKARTA - Coordinating Minister for Regional Infrastructure and Development, Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY) directly inspected the condition of the national road that was cut off due to large floods in the Anai Valley area, Tanah Datar Regency.

This area is one of the worst points affected by flash floods and landslides in West Sumatra.

AHY said this road is a vital access that connects West Sumatra and Riau as well as the main route for public transportation and distribution of goods.

The cut off of the route is not only hampering mobility, but also paralyzing the logistics and economic flows of the people of West Sumatra.

"When this main road is cut off, of course, economic activity is very disturbed, even paralyzed," said AHY.

AHY said that as Minister of Infrastructure, his arrival was to ensure that various efforts had been made in the area, especially heavy equipment, to be reconnected.

In the initial stage, the government targets the route to be temporarily connected again so that certain vehicles can pass even though they are limited.

"We ensure that various efforts are being made. Please provide space for officers who work in the field," he said.

AHY said that due to temporary conditions, for the time being it could be opened only for one route and would be passed alternately.

Although it is only a temporary opening, AHY emphasized that permanent reconstruction efforts will still be prepared in parallel, but the process will take a long time and a big cost.

"The temporary name is certainly not like normal conditions. However, in parallel we are working on a permanent one, which takes longer and of course costs even more," he said.

Meanwhile, Tanah Datar Regent Eka Putra said the Minister of Infrastructure's visit to Tanah Datar is expected to encourage the acceleration of handling, considering that the Anai Valley route is one of the vital accesses in West Sumatra.

"We as local governments, of course, hope that the Coordinating Minister for this road can be rebuilt soon. Because this road is a vital road that determines the economic movement of the people in two provinces, namely West Sumatra and Riau," he said.
