EAST ACEH - A resident of Bunin Village, Serbajadi District, East Aceh Regency, reported that as many as 83 houses were lost in the floods that hit the hinterland.

"There are as many as 83 houses lost in the flood. The condition of residents who lost their homes has nothing more due to the floods that hit some time ago," said Bukhari Muslim, a resident of Bunin Village, as reported by Antara, Tuesday, December 2.

He said dozens of houses and property were swept away by flash floods that occurred last Wednesday. In addition, there were 13 other houses that suffered severe and minor damage.

Affected communities now hope for local government assistance because many residents are starving and forced to sleep on the road.

"Residents do not have tents to set up emergency camps. Some residents are affected by illness and there is no money to buy medicine," he said.

Bukhari described the swift flow of flooding that came with large mud, wood, and rocks. Dozens of houses collapsed or were swept away by the current, leaving the foundation. Residents did not expect flooding to come so quickly.

"The sound of the flood was like a roar from the top of the mountain. Suddenly the big water came with big wood, we immediately ran to save ourselves from leaving the house," he said.

Residents hope that the government will soon be present to carry out recovery, especially for those who have lost their homes.

"We hope that the government will come to the location because the flood has receded. Our house is gone, we need a place to live to start again," he said.

The Head of the East Aceh Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), Ashadi, said that his party was still recording the damage to houses affected by the flood, especially in remote areas.

"Data collection in remote areas is still constrained by access because there are several points where roads are cut off, bridges damaged, and puddles that have not receded," he said.

Temporary data shows damage to houses and public facilities also occurred in a number of other sub-districts. In detail, five houses were heavily damaged, four were moderately damaged, and 15 houses were slightly damaged.
