The Pidie Jaya Police Criminal Investigation Unit, the Aceh Police, arrested five suspected spreaders of false or hoax issues related to rising sea water which had triggered panic among residents in the midst of the flood disaster that was being experienced by the community.

Head of Public Relations of the Aceh Police, Kombes Joko Krisdiyanto, said that the five perpetrators were previously detained by residents in Lhok Sandeng Village, Meurah Dua District, Pidie Jaya Regency, Monday (1/12) early morning.

"The five were arrested on suspicion of spreading hoaxes related to rising sea water, causing panic among people who are facing flood disasters," he said.

The five alleged perpetrators are DH (38), MN (23), NZ (22), RA (19), and MR (50). The five suspected perpetrators are residents of Pidie Jaya Regency, Aceh Province.

According to him, the quick action against the spread of hoaxes was carried out to prevent the spread of panic in the midst of the conditions of people affected by the flood disaster.

"The five suspected perpetrators are now being held at the Pidie Jaya Police for further investigation to reveal their motives for spreading hoaxes," he said.

The current flood situation in some areas of Aceh, said Joko, is quite worrying for the public. The spread of hoaxes such as rising water can increase public anxiety, thus having an impact on social security disturbances.

"The spread of false information such as the issue of rising sea water can exacerbate panic and endanger public safety. Therefore, the Police must act decisively so that panic does not spread," he said.

Joko Krisdiyanto added that the police continue to urge the public not to spread any information before receiving confirmation from official sources.

During the disaster period, said Joko Krisdiyanto, the psychological stability of the community was very vulnerable, so hoaxes or false information could have a wider impact.

On the other hand, the police in the field continue to synergize with local governments, TNI, and volunteers to focus on evacuation, distribution of aid, and recovery of the condition of residents affected by the flood.

"We ask the public to remain calm, help each other, and always seek information through official channels. In the midst of disasters like this, togetherness and social resilience are the keys," said Joko Krisdiyanto.
