Breaking Through Floods In Tapanuli, Prabowo Hears Directly Confess Residents

TAPANULI TENGAH President Prabowo Subianto directly inspected the location of the flood in Central Tapanuli Regency, North Sumatra, December 1, and heard complaints from residents about the conditions they experienced when the flood hit.

During the visit, the President interacted with residents who had fled and asked about the condition of their families and houses. A number of residents told how the river water suddenly overflowed and hit the settlements and forced them to leave their homes in a short time.

President Prabowo expressed his concern over the incident and emphasized that the government continues to strive to ensure that all the needs of the affected residents are met, ranging from logistics, clean water, to health care.

He is grateful that the weather is starting to improve, but reminds that climate change can trigger similar disasters in the future. Therefore, he asked local governments to remain alert and strengthen mitigation.

"The government must really function to protect the environment, anticipate future conditions. Maybe those in the regions should all be ready to face the conditions of climate change that are influential," Prabowo said as quoted by Antara.

During the review, the President reviewed the public kitchens, health posts, and evacuation posts. He ensured that logistics distribution runs smoothly and health services are available to residents in need.

After completing the agenda in Central Tapanuli, the President left for Kualanamu International Airport, Deli Serdang Regency, before continuing his trip by Super Puma helicopter to Alas Leuser Airport, Kutacane, Southeast Aceh. In Aceh, the President visited the Dona Beach Bridge which was cut off due to flooding and the evacuation post in Bambel Baru Village.

The government deployed 28 helicopters to flood-affected areas in Aceh, West Sumatra, and North Sumatra. According to the Cabinet Secretariat, the fleet came from a combination of the Indonesian Air Force, Army, Navy, police, BNPB, and Basarnas to speed up evacuation and delivery of aid.

“Modifikasi cuaca juga dilakukan dalam tiga hari terakhir dan telah berhasil mengurangi curah hujan di seluruh provinsi terdampak, sehingga evakuasi dan pengiriman bantuan logistik dari udara dapat dilakukan dengan cepat,” ujar Sekretaris Kabinet Teddy Indra Wijaya.

Ia memastikan seluruh proses penanganan bencana berjalan cepat, mulai dari evakuasi korban, distribusi logistik, hingga pemulihan akses masyarakat.
