DHF Explodes In Singkawang With 236 Cases, City Government Asks Residents To Fight Jentik

SINGKAWANG - Head of the Singkawang City Health and Family Planning Service, Achmad Hardin, said that the dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF) case in Singkawang was the highest in West Kalimantan throughout 2025.

"Until the end of November, the Health Service reported 236 cases, one of whom died," he said in Singkawang, Antara, Sunday, November 30.

The spike in cases began in October 2025 and placed Singkawang as the area with the most dengue cases compared to other regencies/cities in West Kalimantan.

Achmad explained that the increase in cases was greatly influenced by changes in weather from summer to rainy season which triggered the breeding of the Aedes aegypti mosquito. Unclean environments also worsen the situation.

The Singkawang City Government has carried out the eradication of larvae, including periodic inspections in the puskesmas area. However, he emphasized that the handling of dengue cannot only rely on the government.

"DHF is difficult to stop if it is not accompanied by public concern. The key is to maintain environmental cleanliness and eradicate mosquito nests in water reservoirs," he said.

He appealed to residents to close the water container meeting or sprinkle agate powder to break the mosquito cycle since the egg phase. He emphasized that people often miskrah consider fogging as the main solution.

"What must be eradicated is the eggs. Mosquito eggs can last for months. Fogging only kills adult mosquitoes whose life spans about 10 days," he explained.

If fogging is carried out, he continued, all houses within a 100 meter radius must receive simultaneous treatment so that mosquitoes do not move.

Achmad also reminded schools to maintain environmental cleanliness because many dengue patients are students. Aedes aegypti mosquitoes actively bite during the day, coinciding with study hours.

"Schools must be a concern. Eradication of mosquito nests must be carried out in the school environment," he said.
