JAKARTA - The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) has begun to reach a number of isolated areas due to floods and landslides in Aceh Province through sending logistical assistance using a fleet of helicopters and aircraft.

Head of the BNPB Disaster Data, Information and Communication Center Abdul Muhari in Jakarta, Saturday, said that the delivery was carried out to ensure the basic needs of residents in locations whose land access is still cut off can be met immediately.

The first aid was sent by BNPB helicopter which took off from Kualanamu Airport, Medan, North Sumatra.

In the inaugural sortie, the helicopter carried 588 kilograms of logistical assistance in the form of 60 basic food koli and 10 coli ready-to-eat food. "The delivery on the same day took place in two sorties," he said.

In addition to helicopters, BNPB's Cessna Caravan PK-SNG aircraft were flown via Sultan Iskandar Muda Airport, Banda Aceh, to Rembele Airport in Bener Meriah Regency.

In the first sortie, the aircraft carried 50 instant noodle cartons, five eprocal cartons, seven sports cartons, two generators, two Starlink units, and 20 liters of fuel to strengthen communication and lighting facilities.

Then the second sortie for Bener Meriah, the plane sent additional assistance in the form of 20 boxes of family food, 10 boxes of hygiene kits, one sack of blankets, nets, and sarongs, three boxes of biscuits, three boxes of sanitary napkins, one box of baby diapers, and four packages of telecommunications equipment.

Abdul added that shipments were also addressed to Central Aceh Regency. The first sortie contains 50 instant noodle cartons, five eprocal cartons, 10 sports cartons, one generator, and one Starlink satellite internet unit. The next sortie carries two sacks of rice, 20 boxes of family food, 10 boxes of hygiene kits, and other basic necessities.

BNPB stated that the operation of sending aid by air was a priority because a number of land routes to affected areas were still covered by landslides and could not be passed by vehicles.

As of Saturday night, BNPB said that the logistics and equipment distribution process will continue to be strengthened to ensure that all affected residents in Aceh Tamiang, Bener Meriah, and Central Aceh receive assistance evenly and on time.
