Access To Disconnected Roads And Power Outages Block Flood Evacuation In Aceh

The National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) stated that efforts to evacuate flood-affected residents in a number of areas of Aceh Province experienced obstacles due to cut road access, power outages, and unstable communication networks in the last two days.

Public Relations of the Banda Aceh SAR Office, Nadia, said that the SAR team in the field had difficulty providing periodic situation reports because the communication lines of several affected areas were cut off.

"We have problems getting information because the network is cut off, and in some areas there is still a power outage," said Nadia, quoted by Antara, Friday, November 28.

He explained that access to North Aceh could not be passed so that the team that was originally dispatched to evacuate the people in the area had to be detained in Pidie Jaya Regency.

Weather conditions and waves of public reports are said to have forced SAR personnel to carry out priority handling.

"Currently, the Head of the Banda Aceh SAR Office is still in a flood-affected location in the Pidie Jaya Regency area," he said.

Information received by Basarnas until early Friday morning stated that nine victims died from landslides in Central Aceh.

The victims were three people each in Paya Tumpi and Kampung Saling, two people in Kampung Kabinjung Mata, and one person in Tami Daling Village who was in the Natural Park tourist attraction area.

In addition, two residents were reported missing and could not be evacuated due to limited equipment at the landslide site. Coupled with steep terrain conditions and unstable soil are additional challenges in the search effort.

Nadia said the high public report regarding requests for evacuation and the search for family members in a number of flood areas caused the SAR team's activities to increase significantly in the last 24 hours.

"I'm sorry if we sometimes don't respond directly to questions, because the conditions here are also hectic. We will try our best to provide the information we have received," he said, while asking for prayers from the community so that weather conditions in Aceh immediately improve so that the evacuation and search process can be carried out more optimally.
