JAKARTA - The emergency response status due to the eruption of Mount Semeru in Lumajang Regency, East Java has now been extended until December 2, 2025.

"I have determined an extension of the emergency response status for natural disasters due to the eruption of Mount Semeru," said Lumajang Regent Indah Amperawati as reported by ANTARA, Monday, November 24.

According to him, the decision was taken to ensure maximum protection for the community and the smooth handling of the impact of the eruption of Mount Semeru.

"The decision of the Regent of Lumajang Number 100.3.3.2/610/KEP/427.12/2025 confirms that emergency response efforts must still be carried out quickly, precisely, and integrated," he said.

Although the previous emergency response status has ended, the impact of the eruption is still felt by residents and has the potential to disrupt people's lives and livelihoods.

"The extension of the emergency response status is valid for seven days, starting from November 26 to December 2, 2025," he said.

The decision provides a legal basis for all regional apparatus, especially the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), to continue to carry out emergency handling, infrastructure recovery, and protection of affected residents.

"The extension of the emergency response status is not just an administrative procedure, but a form of the local government's commitment to protecting the public from the risk of disasters that still exist," he said.

According to him, all parties must synergize, starting from regional officials, volunteers, to the community, so that post-disaster management runs smoothly and on target.

The Lumajang Regency BPBD is also ready to strengthen the coordination of all stakeholders, monitor the condition of refugees, ensure logistical availability, and carry out risk mitigation in a sustainable manner.

"With this step, it is hoped that the social and economic impacts of the Semeru eruption can be minimized, while the affected residents still get maximum protection," he said.

He also encouraged the public to remain vigilant, maintain personal safety, and follow the directions of officers in the field.

"The regional government also ensures that all emergency assistance and services will continue to be available to people in need, including health facilities, evacuations, and infrastructure recovery," he said.

With the extension of the emergency response status, Lumajang Regency again shows the spirit of mutual cooperation and preparedness in dealing with natural disasters.

"The safety of citizens is our top priority. Let's all face this situation calmly, with discipline, and mutual support," he said.
