JAKARTA - The National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) is committed to encouraging the development of amphibious aircraft or a collaborative plan with PT Dirgantara Indonesia (PTDI) to strengthen the national weapons system (alutsista) main equipment industry.
Head of BRIN Arif Satria said this step was a follow-up to President Prabowo Subianto's direction so that research and innovation became the foundation of Indonesia's defense independence.
"We are also preparing how to build, strengthen seaplane production. So amphibious aircraft can also land at sea. So, I think the aircraft industry with PT Dirgantara we have collaborated," said Arif at the Presidential Palace complex, Jakarta, Monday, November 24.
The technology for this amphibious aircraft is considered strategic for archipelagic countries such as Indonesia, especially for connectivity in remote areas.
Currently, BRIN already has a number of innovations with PTDI, such as N219 aircraft that are ready to be produced more in accordance with government orders.
BRIN will also expand defense research cooperation with PT Pindad, including strengthening the development of Maung tactical vehicles through increased automotive research and technology.
"We will also collaborate with Pindad which produces defense equipment and our automotive industry. I think Maung, which has been produced by Pindad, will continue to be strengthened by the R&D," said Arif.
Arif said that his party will continue to build synergies with the Ministry of Education, Higher Education, and Science and Technology to ensure that the national research ecosystem runs in an integrated, measurable manner, and is able to accelerate the birth of strategic industrial innovations.
