DPR Urges Ministry Of Religion, Islamic Organizations, And The Police To Practice Siri's Marriage Services

JAKARTA - Member of Commission VIII DPR Selly Andriany Change encourages the Ministry of Religion (Kemenag), Islamic organizations, to the police, to take action against the practice of unregistered marriage services circulating on TikTok.

According to Selly, the unregistered marriage service is a form of demeaning religion and harming the community.

"We encourage the Ministry of Religion, Islamic organizations, and state apparatus to move together. The state should not allow digital space to be used to sell practices that demean religious values and harm the community," said Selly in Jakarta, Sunday.

Quoting the commitment of the Chairman of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Puan Maharani, Selly Change assesses that the unregistered marriage services offered on TikTok are very concerning and cannot be taken lightly or just viral content.

"This is a form of dangerous religious commercialization. Marriage is a sacred institution as well as a state law matter," he said.

To be clear, the former Acting Regent of Cirebon sees this as religious reduction because of fast and instant marriage services that create victims, especially for women and children.

Next, Selly also views unregistered unregistered unregistered marriages as a very serious legal consequence. Because, he said, without records at the Office of Religious Affairs (KUA), women lose state protection, ranging from certainty of their marital status, rights to civil rights.

Furthermore, Selly urged the strengthening of education about marriage. Then, according to Selly, the public must also be aware that the recording of marriage is not just a bureaucratic formality, but also a bulwark of legal protection for families.

"Relevant marriage according to religion must still be recorded so that all parties get certainty and protection from the state," said Selly Change.
