JAKARTA - DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung responded to the phenomenon of rising sea levels on the coast of Jakarta some time ago. One of the highlights is the sea water condition which is almost parallel to the upper side of the 1 meter high embankment in the Mutara Beach area, North Jakarta.
This condition has caused concern for a number of residents. In fact, former DKI Jakarta Governor Basuki Tjahaja Purnama (Ahok) responded. Ahok assessed that if the embankment on Mutiara Beach broke, the sea water could overflow to the mainland and could make the National Monume (Monas) area flooded.
Pramono said that the condition of rising sea level which is almost parallel to the embankment on Mutiara Beach occurred during the tidal flood period.
"We are constantly monitoring together with BMKG. Indeed yesterday the tidal wave had gone up, but now it has come back down," said Pramono at DKI Jakarta City Hall, Friday, November 21.
Based on information from the Class I Meteorological Station of the Tanjung Priok BMKG, the northern area of Jakarta is indeed threatened with tidal flooding from November 3 to 11. This is due to the phenomenon of maximum tide of sea water along with the full moon and perigee phases.
Then, in the period from November 18 to 26, it is predicted that tides will occur along with the new moon phase. Plus, currently, Indonesia is often hit by high-intensity rain.
"Hopefully in the next 2-3 days the rainfall will indeed fall, but in the next 3 days, judging from the BMKG report, it will rise again," said Pramono.

Therefore, Pramono emphasized that the DKI Provincial Government continues to prepare for tidal flooding by alerting pumps in 7 areas of North Jakarta, especially in Muara Angke and Tanjung Priok.
"We have prepared including pumps, floodgates, we check everything. And then like we did this morning, we immediately normalized the Ciliwung River and Krukut River, normalization was carried out immediately," said Pramono.
