The Indonesian Consulate General In Guangzhou Returns Indonesian Citizens Who Are Suspected Of Being Victims Of TIP With Ordered Bridal Mode

JAKARTA - The Indonesian Consulate General of Republic of Indonesia (KJRI) in Guangzhou, China has repatriated RR, an Indonesian citizen from West Java who is suspected of being a victim of a criminal act of trafficking in persons (TPPO) with an order bride mode.

RR officially married in May 2025. Previously, RR was reported to be a victim of TIP and experienced sexual violence.

In an effort to resolve the case, the Indonesian Consulate General in Guangzhou conducted an information check on RR on October 10, 2025 and found no evidence of violence.

Consul General of the Republic of Indonesia in Guangzhou Dr. Ben Perkasa Drajat, has also directly chaired a meeting with the family of RR's husband and local authorities. The two parties then agreed to end the marriage according to local law.

"The Indonesian Consulate General in Guangzhou is making optimal protection efforts for Indonesian citizens. RR can be repatriated due to good coordination between local authorities and authorities in Indonesia," said the Indonesian Consul General, launching a statement from the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Wednesday, November 19.

Furthermore, it is said that the Indonesian Consulate General in Guangzhou bears the accommodation and housing costs of RR for about 1 month and the cost of repatriation to the country.

RR was then handed over to the Indonesian National Police officially at the Indonesian Consulate General in Guangzhou on November 17.

The Indonesian Consul General handed over RR to Kompol Nirwan Fakaubun from the Division of International Relations and West Java Police investigators AKP Ade Saepudin for further processing in Indonesia.

The Indonesian Police expressed their gratitude for the efforts of the Indonesian Consul General and the team in resolving this matter.

"I would like to express my gratitude for the efforts of the Consul General and the staff of the Indonesian Consulate General in Guangzhou in my repatriation efforts," said RR, who returned to the country accompanied by the Consul Consul of the Indonesian Consulate General in Guangzhou on October 18.

The Indonesian Consulate General in Guangzho appealed to Indonesian citizens who want to get married to recognize potential partners well and understand various administrative procedures for marriage between countries, and follow all requirements both in Indonesia and in the country of origin of their potential partners.

In less than 10 months in 2025, the Indonesian Consulate General in Guangzhou has handled more than 10 cases with an order bride mode.
