JAKARTA - Sintang Penitentiary (Lapas) officers in West Kalimantan (West Kalimantan) thwarted an attempt to smuggle methamphetamine that was hidden in entrusted goods for Correctional Inmates (WBP).

"This incident occurred on Monday (17 November) when two visitors came with food packages for one of the inmates," said Head of the Class IIB Sintang Prison, Mohamad Rizal Fuadi, in Sintang, Tuesday, as quoted by Antara.

He said the officers' suspicions arose when checking food packages that were packaged unusually.

"The package of the tofu chili sauce looks different from usual. When examined more carefully, officers found a small clip bag that was suspected to contain narcotics," he said.

The follow-up examination was carried out thoroughly. From the food package, officers found three more packages of methamphetamine that were hidden in a neat way to trick the inspection. T

The findings were immediately followed up with coordination with the Sintang Police for further investigation and development of the parties involved.

Meanwhile, the Head of the Regional Office of the Directorate General of Corrections at the Ministry of Law and Human Rights of West Kalimantan, Jayanta, expressed his appreciation to all Sintang prison officers for this success. He considered that the quick and thorough steps taken by officers were proof of the professionalism of the prison ranks in West Kalimantan.

"There is no room, gap, or compromise for drug trafficking in prisons or detention centers. I am proud of the accuracy of officers who are able to read the new modes of smugglers," he said.

He said this success was in line with the acceleration program of the Minister of Immigration and Corrections in strengthening drug eradication in all prison work units.

"Smuggling through entrusted goods such as food is not new. Therefore, we continue to update the pattern of supervision, tighten inspections, and maximize the use of correctional intelligence," he said.

The failure to smuggle methamphetamine is proof that the officers' vigilance and tightening of inspections at Sintang Prison is effective. The prison ranks of West Kalimantan emphasized that the supervision of entrusted goods will be further strengthened as an effort to prevent drug trafficking in prisons and detention centers.
