Puan Said That The Newly Ratified Criminal Procedure Code Has BEEN Discussed Since 2023

JAKARTA - Chairman of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Puan Maharani, revealed that the Draft Law (RUU) on the Criminal Procedure Code (KUHAP) which was only approved for ratification on Tuesday, has been discussed by Commission III of the DPR RI since 2023.

According to him, the discussion of the bill has involved many parties to provide input as a form of meaningful participation (meaningful participation).

"Of the approximately 130 inputs have been received, then they have gone around in several parts of Indonesia, Yogya, Sumatra, Sulawesi, and so on," said Puan at the Parliament Complex, Jakarta, Antara, Tuesday, November 18.

He said that the new Criminal Procedure Code replaced the use of the old 44-year-old Criminal Procedure Code. If it is not passed, according to him, the legal problems that have occurred in the last 44 years cannot be resolved.

According to him, many things have been updated in the new Criminal Procedure Code Bill. One of them, he said, is the update of the legal system that follows the current developments.

Previously, the 18th Plenary Meeting of the DPR RI for Trial Period II for Session Year 205-2026 approved the Draft Law (RUU) on Amendments to Law Number 8 of 1981 concerning the Criminal Procedure Code (KUHAP) to be ratified into law.

"Can it be approved to become a law? Thank you," said the Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Puan Maharani, who was answered in agreement by all members of the Indonesian House of Representatives who attended the plenary meeting at the parliament complex, Jakarta, Tuesday.

This was done after all factions of political parties in the DPR RI expressed their views and their approval of the Criminal Procedure Code Bill which had been discussed by Commission III of the DPR RI.
