CIREBON — Minister of Culture Fadli Zon opened the 2025 Media Arts Community Festival (FKSM) at the PT Pelindo Port Warehouse Complex in Cirebon on Monday (November 17th). This event serves as a cultural public space for the Indonesian media arts ecosystem.
The fourth edition of FKSM was organized by the Ministry of Culture in collaboration with the Cirebon City Government and PT Pelindo. This year's theme was Rentang Lawang, curated by six curators to depict the historical, technological, and imaginative trajectory of Indonesian media arts.
Fadli Zon emphasized that FKSM is an important platform for expanding public access to media arts. "Our cultural expressions are very rich and must remain relevant," he said. He also described media arts as a space for interdisciplinary dialogue that encourages collaboration and the creation of new works.
The opening was symbolically marked by the pouring of water from nine Cirebon springs. In addition to the Minister of Culture, the procession was attended by representatives of the Sultanate, Cirebon Mayor Effendi Edo, PT Pelindo, and officials from the Ministry of Culture.
Festival director and curator, Yudi Ahmad Tajudin, stated that FKSM creates a space for dialogue between media art, tradition, and locality. This event also serves as a gateway for the development of intellectual property based on local values.
This year, FKSM showcased 22 experimental media art works, consisting of individual, collaborative, and collective works, including glass painting and photography exhibitions. Several cross-media performances were also presented at the Senja Stage.
During the event, Fadli Zon inaugurated the Revitalization of the Old Building (Heritage Port) in the Old Town area of Cirebon as a public cultural space. This building will be used for art exhibitions and performances.
Cirebon Mayor Effendi Edo welcomed FKSM as a form of collaboration for the advancement of culture. Meanwhile, the Director General of Cultural Development, Utilization, and Fostering, Ahmad Mahendra, requested that this public cultural space continue to be maintained and activated by the community.
FKSM 2025 will be held with the participation of artists, academics, communities, and cultural practitioners from Cirebon, Indramayu, and Kuningan.
