Dozens Of Houses Damaged By Tornadoes In Maros

Dozens of houses and a number of public facilities were heavily damaged after a tornado hit Kampung Saja and Battukappong Hamlet, Bantimurung District, Maros Regency, South Sulawesi during heavy rains.

In the amateur video, residents can be seen saving themselves in the midst of extreme weather when the roof and walls of the house are blown off by the wind. A resident, Syarifuddin, said:

"Yes, at 10.00 WIB. The wind suddenly arrived, approximately three minutes hit everyone here, several houses," said Syafrudin, quoted by Antara, Monday, November 17.

Dozens of houses were reported to have suffered minor to severe damage, while a kindergarten and chicken coop were also affected.

"There are six here, added there. It's in the field, so approximately 14'15 buildings, including chicken coops. The worst thing is Pak Makmur's house because one roof of the house was completely damaged," he added.

Although there were no casualties, residents panicked and fled to a safer place. Material losses are estimated at tens of millions of rupiah.

"Alhamdulillah, yesterday there were no casualties, only material victims such as houses and kindergarten facilities. The government has helped in the form of materials and tools from the Social Service after our report," said Tukamasea Makmur Village Head.

Currently, residents are still cleaning independently and waiting for assistance from related parties to repair damaged houses and facilities.
