YOGYAKARTA - The Indonesian Consul General (Konjen) in New York Winanto Adi met with the Deputy Governor of the Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY) KGPAA Paku Alam X at the Kepatihan complex, Yogyakarta, discussing opportunities for new collaboration related to the development of DIY potential in New York, United States.
"We offer the DIY Regional Government there may be potential that we can bring together to introduce more broadly in New York," Winanto said as quoted by ANTARA, Monday, November 17.
He explained that his visit was at the same time to find out the DIY Regional Government's work program in 2026 which allowed it to be collaborated.
Currently, said Winanto, his party is holding a big exhibition entitled "Nusantara: Six Centuries of Indonesian Textiles" at the Yale University Art Gallery, United States, from 12 September 2025 to 11 January 2026.
In the context of textile development in the country, Winanto said there are several potentials that are being looked at to be brought to New York.
"There are several potentials in the Indonesian textile world that we can bring there. One of them is pineapple fiber," said Winanto.
He admitted that he saw opportunities for new collaboration because DIY had a strong track record of international cooperation.
"So far, we have collaborated with DKI Jakarta (Pemprov) in several ways. And this time we want to do it with the DIY Regional Government. Moreover, we know that DIY has done a lot of cooperation and collaboration with 'asia society' in New York, there is even collaboration with Yale University," he said.
Deputy Governor of Yogyakarta KGPAA Paku Alam X said that the DIY area, which is not too wide, has limited investment opportunities in this area.
So far, said Paku Alam, the main supporters of the Gross Regional Domestic Product (GDP) DIY come from the education, culture, and creative economy sectors.
"Regarding the economy, we in DIY are more about the creative economy, where art and culture are also part of it. As for the textile world, of course we are more about batik, especially since Yogyakarta was named the City of Batik Dunia," he said.

Head of the DIY Culture Service, Dian Lakshmi Pratiwi, said that the DIY Regional Government had indeed collaborated with the Indonesian Consul General in New York in the cultural sector, but had not yet developed more widely.
Dian hopes that future collaboration can be directed at strengthening the museum ecosystem.
"DIY has 41 museums, where there is still a lot of potential museums that can be further developed. Because it would be welcome if it could collaborate with the Indonesian Consul General in New York to be able to connect us with museums in New York," said Dian.
