INDRAMAYU - The Indramayu Regency Government, West Java, has established 59 disaster-resilient villages amidst extreme weather. This is a mitigation measure in response to hydrometeorological events during the rainy season.

Indramayu Regent Lucky Hakim, in his statement in Indramayu on Sunday, stated that the establishment of disaster-resilient villages is a priority step to train the community in reducing the potential impacts of hydrometeorological events.

"Indramayu's geographical conditions, stretching from the coast to agricultural areas, make this area vulnerable to various disasters," he said, as quoted by ANTARA on November 16.

He mentioned that coastal areas such as Pasekan, Cantigi, Losarang, and Kandanghaur are frequently hit by floods and tidal waves, while the central and southern regions are vulnerable to whirlwinds.

Given these conditions, he said, the implementation of the disaster-resilient village program is deemed necessary so that preparedness can be strengthened throughout the community.

In addition, his office regularly provides disaster communication, information, and education (KIE) training to 69 villages in Indramayu Regency.

Lucky said these efforts are also strengthened by the Disaster Safe Education Unit (SPAB) program and Emergency First Aid (PPGD) training at the school level.

"We want to instill a culture of disaster awareness in the younger generation from an early age," he said.

He further stated that all elements in the region must be ready to act quickly, precisely, and in a coordinated manner to deal with potential disasters during the rainy season.

His office has held preparedness briefings, including disaster management simulations, including flood evacuation scenarios involving various elements.

He emphasized that these simulations serve as a means to test communication systems, command flow, and the effectiveness of emergency response when a disaster occurs.

"When a disaster strikes, every element must know its role and act quickly and in a coordinated manner," he said.
