Turkey Calls Hamas Ready For Permanent Armistice, Urges Israel To Do The Same

JAKARTA - Palestinian militant group Hamas is ready to take constructive steps to make the current Gaza ceasefire permanent, and Israel must show the same commitment, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said Wednesday.

"The Gaza Strip is part of Palestine; it must remain so and be treated properly," said Foreign Minister Fidan at a joint press conference in Ankara with his Egyptian counterpart Badr Abdelatty, launching Daily Sabah November 13.

Foreign Minister Fidan also noted that his recent meeting at the White House, United States provided an opportunity to outline Turkey's position on regional key issues, including Syria.

Meanwhile, Foreign Minister Abdelatty reiterated Cairo's support for Syria's security, stability and sovereignty, stressing the country "does not pose a threat to other parties in the region."

Abdelatty said she had held a "benefitful consolidation" with Fidan on bilateral and regional issues, as well as announced plans to immediately hold a second session of the High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council in Cairo, which President Recep Tayyip Erdogan will attend.

Regarding Gaza, he called for the urgent delivery of medical aid and the rapid holding of a reconstruction conference, stressing the need to accelerate humanitarian aid "before winter."
