Head of the Indonesian Navy Information Service (Kadispenal) First Admiral Tunggul said the presence of an autonomous submarine (KSOT) in the ranks of the Indonesian Navy's strength is proof of the technological advancement of Indonesia's main weapon system (alutsista) technology which is now capable of being developed by the sons and daughters of the nation themselves.

"The presence of KSOT is an indicator of forward steps that show a serious commitment to the independence of the national defense industry, in this case PT PAL, which has developed an unmanned defense system with high impacts," said Tunggul in Jakarta, Antara, Wednesday, November 12.

He added that the presence of KSOT made Indonesia one of the pioneer countries for autonomous submarine users in the Asian region.

Tunggul ensured that the Indonesian Navy was committed to collaborating with PT PAL to increase KSOT production in order to strengthen national sea defense, in accordance with the direction of the Minister of Defense Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin.

Previously, Sjafrie said that the government plans to produce 30 units of KSOT to maintain a number of choke points or strategic narrow points in Indonesian waters.

"Earlier, I, the TNI Commander, the Chief of Staff of the Indonesian Navy, and the Director of PT PAL had carried out a technical evaluation, and we concluded that Indonesia needed 30 units of autonomous submarines," said Sjafrie on the deck of KRI dr. Soeharso-990, Fleet Command Pier II TNI AL, Surabaya, Thursday (30/10).

Although he has not detailed the locations of these choke points, Sjafrie asked the Navy and PT PAL to immediately evaluate the production so that all KSOT units can be operated immediately in the Indonesian sea area.
