Impregnating His Own Niece, Man AJ in West Manggarai, NTT Faces 15 Years in Prison

MANGGARAI - The West Manggarai (Mabar) Police in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) remain committed to taking firm action against perpetrators of child molestation, charging AJ (44), a suspected perpetrator of child molestation, with a maximum prison sentence of 15 years.

"The West Manggarai Police remain committed to protecting children and taking firm action against all forms of violence and sexual crimes against children," said the Head of Public Relations for the Mabar Police, First Inspector Hery Suryana, when contacted in Labuan Bajo by Antara on Tuesday, November 12.

He said AJ was accused of molesting the victim, identified as Y (17). The victim is AJ's niece.

For his actions, the alleged perpetrator, AJ, has been charged under Article 81 paragraph (2) of Law Number 35 of 2014 concerning Child Protection.

"Based on the examination, the victim is now seven months pregnant, and this case is still under investigation," he said.

He explained that the victim's parents reported the case. The report is contained in police report No. LP/B/167/X/2025/SPKT/Mabar Police/NTT Regional Police, dated October 21, 2025.

He continued, explaining that the victim's family admitted to the police that they entrusted the victim to the perpetrator in 2023 because the victim's parents worked in Kalimantan.

After approximately one month of living at the perpetrator's house, the perpetrator began seducing and persuading the victim, ultimately committing indecent acts against her.

"We urge the public to increase supervision of children and immediately report any unlawful acts to the authorities," he said.
