JAKARTA - Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung wants the number of female drivers on Transjakarta buses to continue to increase. According to Pramono, he feels the drivers are more diligent in driving.

Pramono made this statement while attending the graduation ceremony for a women-only driving training program at the PT Transjakarta office in Cawang, East Jakarta.

"I've ridden Transjakarta several times on Wednesdays, and when the driver is female, they're usually more orderly, neater, more comfortable, and I also feel more at ease," Pramono said on Monday, November 10.

According to Pramono, the presence of female drivers not only strengthens the spirit of equality but also adds a unique dimension to public transportation services in the capital.

Therefore, Pramono has requested that the President Director of Transjakarta ensure this women-only training program continues with the first batch. The Jakarta Provincial Government, he said, is targeting an increase in the proportion of female drivers on Transjakarta buses to more than 10 percent in the next few years.

"Therefore, I have asked the President Director of Transjakarta to continue this program. This collaboration ensures that women in Jakarta will not only be the 2 to 3 percent of Transjakarta drivers; I hope to reach over 10 percent," he said.

At the event, 15 female participants participated in the training program, and 13 of them officially graduated as female Transjakarta drivers. The program runs from September 15 to October 16, 2025, and is part of efforts to empower women in the public transportation sector.

"Today, I am happy and excited. We celebrate the extraordinary achievements of 15 students who have completed the Women Empowerment Program. Today, 13 strong Indonesian women are being awarded the position of Transjakarta drivers. I think this is extraordinary. Congratulations to all participants who have successfully completed the training program," said Pramono.

Pramono emphasized that the participants' success is the result of hard work, discipline, and a passion for contributing to improving the quality of public services in Jakarta.

"The Jakarta Provincial Government remains committed to realizing an inclusive and equitable public transportation ecosystem, by ensuring equality behind the wheel, in operational areas, and in all aspects of Transjakarta services," said Pramono.

Meanwhile, PT Transjakarta President Director Welfizon Yuza explained that this training aims to empower women to drive large vehicles professionally and safely. The graduation ceremony included the symbolic presentation of certificates by the Governor of Jakarta.

"This program aims to empower women through training in driving large vehicles professionally, safely, and with a focus on public service," Welfizon continued.
