SORONG - The West Papua High Prosecutor's Office (Kejati) has named two officials within the Sorong City Government, Southwest Papua, as suspects in the alleged corruption case of spending on office stationery (ATK) for the 2017 fiscal year with a state loss of IDR 4.5 billion.

Assistant for Special Crimes (Aspidsus) of the West Papua Prosecutor's Office, Agustiawan Umar, said the two suspects were former officials of the Sorong City Financial and Asset Management Agency (BPKAD).

"The suspect HJT at that time served as Head of BPKAD Sorong City, while BEPM served as treasurer," said Agustiawan in Manokwari, Antara, Thursday, November 6.

He explained that the Sorong City BPKAD in 2017 allocated the budget for ATK and printed goods through the main APBD and changes with a total value of Rp8.03 billion.

However, the results of the investigation revealed that there were irregularities in the management and implementation of the budget, which resulted in state losses of Rp. 4.5 billion according to the results of expert calculations.

"The budget was not realized properly, and there was an unlawful act in the procurement process," he said.

The determination of the suspect was carried out after investigators pocketed two valid pieces of evidence, followed by a case title.

The two officials were immediately detained at the Class IIB Sorong Penitentiary (Lapas) for 20 days, starting from 6 to 25 November 2025.

"The second determination is based on letter number TAP-02/R.2.1/Fd.2/11/2025 and TAP-03/R.2.1/Fd.2/11/2025 dated November 6, 2025," said Agustiawan.

The two suspects were charged with Article 2 paragraph (1) in conjunction with Article 18 of Law Number 31 of 1999 concerning the Eradication of Criminal Acts of Corruption, as amended by Law Number 20 of 2001 in conjunction with Article 55 paragraph (1) of the 1st Criminal Code as the primary article.

Agustiawan emphasized that the investigation is still ongoing and it is possible that there will be new suspects if evidence of the involvement of other parties is found.

"While a subsidiary, investigators also ensnared the suspects under the same article," he said.
