Central Jakarta Metro Police deployed a total of 1,464 joint personnel from elements of the TNI, Polri, and DKI Jakarta Provincial Government (Pemprov) to guard the demonstration held by workers in front of the DPR/MPR RI Building, Senayan.
Central Jakarta Metro Police Chief, Police Commissioner Susatyo Purnomo Condro, emphasized the presence of the apparatus to ensure security and order.
"We are here to make sure everything goes safely and conducive," said Police Commissioner Susatyo in Jakarta, Thursday (due, if any).
Susatyo detailed that the mass of workers who will hold the action will come from the Confederation of the Indonesian Trade Union Alliance Congress (KASBI). The number of joint personnel of 1,464 is specifically for security in the DPR/MPR.
Other Action Points Monitored
Apart from the Senayan area, demonstrations were also observed at several other points in Central Jakarta. The action was carried out by student alliances around the Monas area as well as the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah.
For security at these other points, said Susatyo, his party deployed a different number of personnel.
"For those in front of the DPR/MPR, there are 1,464 personnel, while at other points there are 734 personnel," he said.
Orderly Appeals And Bans On Anarchic Actions
The Susatyo Police Chief asked the entire mass of the action to express their opinions peacefully and in an orderly manner. He also strictly prohibited anarchist acts such as burning tires, destroying public facilities, or closing roads.
"Please express your opinion, but remain in the corridor of law and order," he said.
Regarding the scenario for diverting traffic flow, he said it was still situational. Residents are advised to avoid the DPR/MPR area during the action and find alternative routes.
"We ask for the understanding of the community. Safety and comfort are our priorities," added Susatyo.
At the end of his statement, Susatyo also appealed to the public not to be easily provoked by false information or hoaxes circulating on social media and potentially triggering a commotion.
"Security officers do not carry firearms and serve residents who express their opinions humanely and professionally," he concluded.
