Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture (Menko PMK) Pratikno said President Prabowo Subianto had given directions to design integrated school development in each sub-district.
"Earlier, the President had also ordered to start thinking about integrated schools," said Pratikno after a limited meeting with President Prabowo at the Presidential Palace, Jakarta, Wednesday, November 6.
Pratikno explained, the concept of an integrated school will combine various levels of education ranging from elementary schools (SD), junior high schools (SMP), high schools (SMA) to vocational high schools (SMK) in one area with complete educational facilities.
Intermigration schools will be equipped with laboratories, vocational workshops, as well as adequate sports facilities so that students can develop academic skills as well as practical skills.
The school will also emphasize the importance of including art elements and sports into the curriculum, so that the educational approach no longer focuses solely on science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).
"So it's not just about science, technology, engineering, mathematics, but also adding art and sports," he added.
Pratikno said that integrated schools complement the existence of public schools and Garuda schools that both support poverty alleviation programs through equitable access to quality education for all levels of society.
The government targets integrated schools that include elementary, junior high, high school, and vocational schools in this area to target students from the middle class.
