JAKARTA - The Sudanese government proposed Turkey and Qatar's involvement in efforts to mediate peace negotiations between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) paramilitary group to produce a fairer agreement.
"If you want to achieve real peace negotiations, we must involve other mediators, Turkey and Qatar. This is a proposal from the Sudanese government," said Sudanese Ambassador to Indonesia Dr. Yassir Mohamed Ali in a special interview with ANTARA, Wednesday, November 5.
The proposal came after the International Four Group (International Four Group) consisting of the United States (US), Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), delivered initiatives to mediate peace negotiations between Sudanese soldiers and the RSF paramilitary group.
Sudan sees Saudi Arabia and Egypt as trusted partners. However, they considered the US to have double standards, which gave the United Arab Emirates the green light to support the RSF, which has carried out insurgency and killing of civilians in El-Fasher, Sudan.
The US and UAE are said to have imposed unfair ceasefire provisions for Sudanese governments and people.
"You cannot impose sanctions on the government and equate sanctions between the attacking party and the self-defense party," he said.
Karena itu, Sudan mengusulkan keterlibatan mediator lain seperti Turki dan Qatar untuk turut memediasi negosiasi damai tersebut. Namun, mereka enggan untuk melakukan hal itu, katanya.
"Because they know that if Turkey, the Turkish and Qatar governments unite with Saudi and Egypt, they will form a majority and they can lead other countries to produce rational and acceptable solutions by the Sudanese government," Yassir added.
Yassir emphasized that the mediators could not force peace on the Sudanese government by forcing them to accept the requirements they made because the Sudanese government currently excels over the RSF, has taken control of most areas and will continue to fight the rebels.
"So, we can't accept someone who is aggressor, supported by them, and they want to force peace that attaches importance to the aggressor policy, which in the end is their agenda," he said.
