BEKASI - Deputy Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, also collaborated when there was a demonstration of workers in front of a Michelin tire factory, Bekasi Regency, West Java, Monday to urge companies to re-employ a number of employees who were rumored to be laid off.

He gave a speech after together with the ranks of the DPR and labor representatives met the management of the company PT Multistrada Arah Sarana as the manager of the Michelin tire factory. According to him, there have been a number of things agreed with the company.

"We ask the management for the current friends who have been laid off to return to work immediately," said Dasco in front of hundreds of workers.

Dasco's remarks immediately received applause from the workers who packed Jalan Pantura.

In addition, he also said that his party had asked the company to stop all layoffs processes to its employees. If there is a layoff process, he asks the company to refer to the cooperation agreement and the applicable labor provisions.

"And if there are further processes, so that the management can negotiate in accordance with the provisions," he said as reported by Antara.

He also asked the company to resolve the problem no later than next Friday. For this reason, he asked the demonstration groups to maintain a conducive atmosphere and return to work.

"We ask that this process be terminated first so that there are no violations. We must follow the applicable procedures," he said.

The news about the layoffs of this multinational French tire company came from a labor organization. It is suspected that this was due to a decline in demand for Michelin tire products, which he said also occurred in the global scope.

Chairman of the Confederation of All Indonesian Trade Unions (KSPSI) Andi Gani Nena Wea, said workers' organizations would take strategic steps to protect members in danger of losing their jobs.

He asked the Ministry of Manpower, the Bekasi Regency Manpower Office, and the West Java Provincial Manpower Office to immediately summon the management of the company and the Head of the Work Unit (PUK) KEP KSPSI PT Multistrada.
