Police Secure 1.7 Kg Of Marijuana From 3 Dealers In Sorong, One Of Them Is Expeditional Mode

The Sorong City Police revealed a case of circulating 1.7 kilograms (kg) of the three suspected dealers, as an important part of suppressing the circulation of illegal drugs in the Southwest Papua region.

"The three suspects, namely each with the initials AAK, GS and MJW, act as marijuana dealers sent from outside Sorong City," said Deputy Chief of Sorong City Police, AKBP Mathias Krey during a press conference at the Sorong City Police Headquarters in Sorong, Monday, confiscated by Antara.

He said that on August 15, 2025, the Operational Team of the Narcotics Investigation Unit of the Sorong City Police secured suspect AAK in the Peini Sorong Port area or to be precise at the passenger exit of Jalan Jendral Ahmad Yani, Kampung Baru Village, Sorong Kota District.

"The evidence that was secured was 13 large plastic packages suspected of containing marijuana with a net weight of 366.41 grams," he said.

Then, on August 18, 2025, the team again arrested the perpetrator with the initials GS in front of the expedition delivery service office on Jalan Jendral Ahmad Yani, Malabutor Village, Sorong District, Sorong City, with evidence of 112.54 grams of marijuana.

"This type of marijuana narcotics was sent from Jayapura to Sorong with the resi number being sent by JD0491854211 through a J&T express delivery service," he said.

Furthermore, another dealer with the initials MJW was arrested by the team on September 20, 2025 on Jalan Matoa Lorong Muara Mulia 2, Malawel Village, Sorong Manoi District, Sorong City with evidence of marijuana weighing 1,174,18 grams/1 kg.

"In addition to marijuana, we also uncovered a case of methamphetamine-type drugs weighing 9.6620 grams from a dealer with the initials OM," he said.

He said the articles suspected of Article 114 Paragraph (1) Subsidiary Article 111 Paragraph (1), Law of the Republic of Indonesia Number 35 of 2009, concerning Narcotics with a life sentence of imprisonment, or imprisonment for a minimum of 5 years and a maximum of 20 years and a fine of at least Rp. 1 billion or a maximum of Rp. 10 billion.
