Greater Tangerang Still Has The Potential For Hail In The Next 1-3 Days

JAKARTA - Greater Tangerang is predicted to experience extreme weather, including the phenomenon of hail, heavy rain accompanied by wind. The extreme weather will hit the Tangerang city/district area, Banten for the next one to three days.

"The phenomenon of hail, heavy rain is still potential for the next 1-3 days," said Head of the Region II Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), Hartanto quoting Antara.

He said the occurrence of extreme weather in the form of hail previously occurred several times in the Banten area, especially Tangerang Raya.

According to him, the hail phenomenon is one of the extreme weather that occurs on a local scale and is marked by falling ice grains in the clouds in a period of several minutes.

Reports received by BMKG on Friday (31/10), in the Gading Serpong area, Kelapa Dua, Tangerang Regency and South Tangerang have an hail phenomenon.

"The phenomenon of hail often occurs during the transitional and rainy seasons. Hail is a hydrometeorological disaster caused by cumulonimbus clouds," he said.

He explained that inside the cumulonimbus clouds there are up air currents and very strong downflows, which trigger the formation of water droplets into ice grains and fall along with rainwater.

For other factors, the phenomenon of hail is due to the warm sea level temperature around the Banten area, increasing evaporation and humidity, as well as atmospheric activity such as Low Frequency and strong air lability to support the formation of rain clouds.

BMKG appealed to the public to increase awareness of the potential for extreme weather that causes hydrometeorological disasters, such as inundation, floods, landslides, moderate to heavy rain accompanied by lightning or lightning and strong winds, and hail.

"If heavy rains fall from black clouds accompanied by strong winds and are accompanied by ice, immediately enter the room, avoid taking shelter under trees, and avoid using electronics," he said.
