JAKARTA - The World Health Organization (WHO) on Friday stated that 17 countries in Africa had experienced continued active transmission of thempox for the past six weeks.
2,862 confirmed cases were recorded, including 17 deaths between September 14 and October 19.
The WHO also stated that Malaysia, Namibia, the Netherlands, Portugal, and Spain had detected the agency's first Clade Ibmpox (MPXV) since the agency's last report.
Mpox is a viral infection that spreads through close contact and usually causes symptoms such as flu and pusy lesions. Symptoms are usually mild, but can be deadly.
