Drug Gang Clashes In Brussels, 2 People Shot

JAKARTA - Two people suffered gunshot wounds after clashes between groups in Brussels on Thursday morning, the Brussels prosecutor said. Currently, the problem of violent crimes in the Belgian capital has not shown any signs of easing.

As reported by Reuters, the Brussels Prosecutor's Office said on Friday, October 31, police were summoned to the Place de Bethleem in Saint Gilles - near the Gare du Midi station used by Eurostar, in the early hours of Thursday.

The two victims were found injured at the scene, with bullet casings found nearby, while two other suspects were arrested.

The injuries of the two victims were not life-threatening.

"The exact situation behind this incident will be the subject of an in-depth investigation," the prosecutor continued, when asked if this incident was linked to a rival drug gang.

Brussels has been hit by violence linked to drug gangs in recent years, and officials say more than 100 of Europe's most dangerous criminal networks operate in Belgium.

In February this year, authorities were forced to close several Brussels metro stations as they hunted down two suspects following the shooting linked to drug dealers.
